Some Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) are still dispensing old Naira notes to Nigerians despite the directives by the CBN that old notes would be phased out of circulation by January 31st.
The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, issued the directives to all banks to stop loading old Naira notes in Automated Teller Machines (ATMs).
The apex bank said commercial banks must load new and redesigned Naira notes in ATMs so that it can circulate properly.
In the directives to Nigerians, the CBN said by the end of the deadline, anybody having old naira notes will no longer be able to use it for any transaction.
The apex bank said the old notes would be withdrawn from circulation by January 31st.
Also, the CBN has asked Nigerians to reject old banknotes from banks.
It said it is sanctionable for any bank to dispense old notes via ATMs.
It therefore, urged Nigerians to go and exchange their old Naira notes with new and redesigned ones at the commercial banks available to them.
Meanwhile, despite closeness to the deadline, discoveries reveal that ATMs are still dispensing old Naira notes to Nigerians.
Visits to many banks show that their ATMs are still dispensing old notes while others are dispensing a mixture of old notes and newly redesigned ones.
When our writer visited the ATM of the United Bank For Africa (UBA) in Nsukka, the ATMs were still dispensing old notes.
Similar occurrences happened at some ATMs of GT Bank and First Banks.
Nevertheless, some Tweeps in the country have confirmed that the ATMs are either dispensing the new notes or still dispensing the old notes.
The issue of new notes, I pray it won’t cause kasala sha.

Do these if ATMs dispense old Naira notes to you:
The CBN has said that it is sanctionable for banks to dispense old notes.
IT has equally urged Nigerians to return old notes.
According to the CBN, if a bank’s ATM dispenses old notes to you, reject it.
Also, the CBN noted that Nigerians should return the old notes to the banks if the ATMs dispense old notes to them.
Equally, you can petition the CBN to take action against any bank that dispenses old notes to you as the apex bank has said it is sanctionable.
