The shopping mistake shoppers make:
UK shoppers are making a simple shopping mistake of shopping at Tesco Express or Sainsbury’s local rather than larger supermarket store.
This mistake is costing the shoppers some huge cash.
For instance, UK shoppers buying the same 75 items at Tesco Express instead of a larger Tesco spend an extra £15.73 higher a week.
Those shopping at Sainsbury’s Local malls pay 19 per cent higher, a report by UK media says.
Sue Davies, head of food policy warns UK shoppers of the hikes.
What the supper markets are saying:
A Sainsbury’s spokeswoman said they hiked prices because their stores are at cities where they pay rates, rents and other higher bills.
She said, the price differences are “because our Sainsbury’s Local stores are located in city or town centre locations and their operating costs, for example rent and rates, are higher”.
Similarly, a Tesco spokesman said they are giving shoppers value hence, the hike.
“We work hard to ensure our customers get great value at Tesco, whether they shop with us online, in a large store or in an Express store.”
“Our Express stores offer a range of extremely competitive own brand products, as well as offering great value deals through Clubcard Prices.”
What to do?
UK shoppers should consider buying at convenience stores which sell some items at cheaper rates.
For instance, convenience stores are selling items like Anchor Spreadable Butter Tub (500g), Colgate Total Original Toothpaste (125ml) and Magnum Almond Ice Cream (4 pack) at 3 per cent cheaper on average.
Nigerians who have migrated to the UK can also take this advice and shop at convenience stores where things are cheaper.
