Guess who’s doing great in the art class? We’ll tell you; it’s Google. Google seems to have a lot of free time on their hands and no worries at all. They just finished colouring the entire field on Google Maps.
This is particularly shocking to us. We weren’t expecting to see anyone paint in the middle of the ongoing war in the tech space. Currently, Trump is sticking it to Chinese tech companies.
On the other hand, Epic Games (maker of the popular mobile game “Fortnite”) also had a dispute with Apple recently. Ironically, Google is painting its map with different shades of Green and Blue.
Over the years, Google has invested a lot in building Google Maps and making it an indispensable tool for everyone. Today, whether you’re travelling to a place for the first time or trying to beat the traffic on your way home, checking the Google Maps is usually the first thought that comes to mind.
Forgive us if we sounded like this new modification from Google was laughable in the introduction. Actually, it is an excellent idea, and it will be helpful to many users across the globe.
The new visual improvements are now accessible on desktops and mobile phones via the app. Also, this new update will be available in all 220 countries and territories supported by Google Maps.
According to Google, its map covers 98% of the world with high-definition satellite imagery. With added colours and visual features, users will have a better understanding of what they see on the map.
Understanding the new colours
It’s difficult to tell if you’re looking at a foggy forest or an ocean when everything is coloured in white. The new colours introduced by Google represent natural features in better ways. So far, these are the new colours that have been spotted on Google Maps and what they are known to represent;
- Dark Green: The Dark Green colour represents densely covered forests.
- Light Green: The Green colour appears in lighter shades when the vegetation in the area is mild.
- White: This colour represents ice and snow on the map.
- Tan: Deserts and rocky lands.
- Blue: Water bodies.
More incoming features
Google will be adding a few more touches to its map in the coming weeks. Users will soon be able to see more detailed street information on the app. This will make it easier for every user to find their way around places.
Some of the new additions will include;
- Clear images of pedestrian islands, sidewalks, and crosswalks.
- Street information, showing the accurate shape and width of roads.
These extra features will serve commuters who prefer to walk to maintain social distance. London, New York, and San Francisco will be getting the full update in the coming months. Other cities will be getting theirs later on.
