Every year comes with its own bag of events. This year isn’t so different, as it was filled with varieties.

However, it was way more than we could have foreseen.

No one saw that the world would have to shut down, and everyone would have to stay home to stay alive.

The year suffered a lot including our dear own country, Nigeria.

From the global pandemic to the #EndSARS protest, things didn’t go as people envisaged.

This took a great toll on Nigerians in every aspect.

Many people lost their jobs, lives and livelihood as Nigeria went into a recession.

Summits and events projected to hold in the year were also affected and were moved to the virtual space to curtail the spread of the virus.

However, the tech industry was able to hold mind-blowing events virtually.

Below are some of the top Tech Summits that held virtually in the year 2020.

Nigeria innovation summit

Nigeria Innovation summit 2020

It held its 5th annual summit virtually on October 5-8, 2020.

Also, it has been described by one of the largest innovative summits held in the year.

The event themed “Innovating in critical times,” was to help Nigerians embrace innovation and move in the direction of digital transformation by using emerging technologies and trends.

The event brought about stakeholders from different sectors to share their experiences, ideas, trends, innovation, opportunities around technology and entrepreneurial development in Nigeria.

The summit was led by InnovationHub Africa and Resources Limited, Emerging Media and Advertising service, New York and Emerging Media Nigeria.

The summit partnered with world-leading innovation providers, government, academic community and industries in Nigeria.

Some of them included the Federal Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy, Techeconomy.ng, Nigeria Communication Commission, ZOHO, among others.

Some of the summit speakers included Harriet Thompson, Tosin Faniro-Dada, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim, Prof Umar Garba Danbatta, Prof Toony Bailetti and many other top tier leaders.

Nigeria Tech Summit

This year it held its 2nd edition virtually on December 4, 2020.

Also, it was the second-largest digital summit held in West Africa.

The summit was held to accelerate development into the Africa tech ecosystem.

It also brought about world technology leaders to learn and do business in Nigeria.

Alongside the summit, it also hosted the largest tech tour in the continent.

It was powered by the Global Startup ecosystem, the leading ecosystem that supports development.

Also, it was sponsored by the US Embassy of Nigeria.

Some of its partners were IM cloud, Amazon Web services, Forbes, LinkedIn, SDG, Her Future summit, Google Cloud, and others.

Momentum Summit

Momentum virtual event

It was one of the most important technology events held in Nigeria this year.

Momentum held on December 9 and 10, 2020.

The event was to unite global technology to promote the role of tech in building a better society.

The event was themed “To Overcome Global Challenges And Build A Better Future Through Technology”.

During the events, the discussions were around these four pillars; society, economy, sustainability, and trust and ethics.

Catherine P. Bessant, Will Gannis, Lauren Gardner, Bret Arsenault, Steward Butterfield, Ken Washington were among the speakers at the event.

Some of the topics touched during the event were:

  • How technology is boosting the Global health
  • Translating Google technology into business value with the office of the CTO
  • The future of technology in healthcare
  • Creating a consumer-centric, technology-enabled healthcare ecosystem.

Sophos Evolve

Virtual Cybersecurity summit

The summit held virtually on November 17-18, 2020. Sophos Evolve held the cybersecurity summit to tackle cybersecurity issues.

Also, the summit was aimed at using the latest innovations as protection and prevention to stay a step ahead of hackers.

It was also to help people understand how attacks can become full-scale breaches.

Some of the subjects touched during the summit were:

  • Real hacks deconstructed
  • Live hacking demonstration
  • Cybersecurity in the age of Covid-19
  • Be the hacker, beat the hacker.
  • Cybersecurity strategy evolved.

From its update on its website, participants would have learnt on Sophos Central, Intercept X with EDR, XG Firewall, Managed Threat Response, Mobile Security, after the event.

Financial Inclusion Leadership summit

Financial Inclusion Leaders Virtual Conference 2020

The event held virtually on the Zoom webinar on October 22, 2020.

It brought technology like-minds from all over Africa to discuss the challenges and new opportunities in driving financial inclusion in Africa.

Also, it discussed the role of technology in the financial space.

Experts for the financial sector, health, real estate, e-commerce participated in the summit.

The totality of the summit aimed at making a great contribution to the growth and development of Africa.

Some of the topics focused on during the event were:

  • Role of financial health – and ecosystem drivers that enable prosperity through health inclusion during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • The role of women accelerating financial inclusion among women through data.
  • Focusing on driving financial inclusion in agriculture.
  • Focusing on the role of development Funding and its help in driving financial Inclusion.

Africa Fintech Summit

This year, the Africa Fintech held virtual summit due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It held its 5th edition on November 12, this year.

The annual summit held for three days and had top tiers like Twitter’s CEO, Jack Dorsey at the fore of discussions.

Also, representing Africa at the fore was Yele Badamosi, CEO Bundle Africa.

Moreover, the discussions were on the future of Fintech in Africa.

Asides the two speakers, there were 72 other speakers including Michael Seibel, CEO Y-Combination; Olugbenga Agboola, CEO Flutterwave; Akinlade Shola, CEO Paystack and many others.

However, it had 12 panels sessions and had about 855 registered delegates.

2021 looks more promising
