Nike To Sell Digital Shoes In The Metaverse, Buys Virtual Sneaker Maker

Sportswear giant, Nike will start selling digital shoes in the Metaverse. Nike plans on doing this by buying virtual sneaker company, RTFKT for an undisclosed sum. The sportswear maker takes the step to expand its footprint in the fast-growing “metaverse.” Recall that last month, Nike (NKE) became one of the first big brands to enter Metaverse. In metaverse, anybody can buy digital assets including virtual lands. You can buy digital shoes, sneakers, clothing for avatars using NFTs. ALSO READ: What Are NFTs? NFT stands for Non-fungible tokens. it is a cryptocurrency asset. Meanwhile, Benoit Pagotto, Chris Le and Steven Vasilev, formed RTFKT in 2020. The company said on its website that it also makes NFT collectibles and memes. “This acquisition is another step that accelerates Nike’s digital transformation and allows us to serve athletes and creators at the intersection of sport, creativity, gaming and culture,” Nike Chief Executive Officer John Donahoe said in a statement.
