In 2020, YouTube started an initiative, #YouTube Black that motivate Black creators on its channel.
It requested that interested creators apply for its initiative for its $100 million funds.
The funds would help ” amplify and develop the voices of Black creators and artists and their stories.”
Aside from the funding, it would educate them to better their content creation.
The education will include events, workshops and training for the community of black creatives.
As it started in October 2020, YouTube has chosen several Black creators to participate in its initiative.
23 African YouTube creators were chosen from Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa and other African countries.
Top African artists like Fireboy DML, Sauti Sol, Sho Madjozi will join the #YouTubeBlack Voices class of 2021.
The YouTube creators include; Tomike Adeoye, Akah Bants, Eric Okafor, Nicolette Mashile, Ofentse and Nelisiwe Mwase, Lasizwe Dambuza, Mumo, MacG and many others.

This year, it selected 26 Africans for its funds, including ten Nigerians, twelve South Africans and four Kenyans.
Some of them are Chineyere, Abang, FisayoFosudo, Fummeee, Skye Belle, Data Pepple and others.
However, as YouTube has said, the initiative would be yearly.
And every year, it would pick YouTube creators to fund and host courses online for.
So if you didn’t get to be a part of last year or this year, you could be for next year.
Here are some things to know to be the next set of YouTube creators for #YouTube Black.
Content must be Original.
Of all the creators chosen by YouTube, they all speak to a different sphere of life.
And their content helps and gives solutions to issues people face in day-to-day life.
So if you want to be part of the next creators for YouTube’s initiative, deliver content that can speak for itself.
There are no two ways around creating original content.
Look for a problem and share solutions to the issues on the platform.
There are many societal issues that many people aren’t speaking on; pick any of them, research and speak on them.
Consistency
Showing up every time on the platform is one way to grow and attract the right people.
Don’t stop showing up because of how the views, likes or comment looks now.
As you keep showing up, you keep attracting the relevant audience.
And you would begin to be recognised for that.
Subscribers or niche doesn’t matter.
YouTube isn’t going to choose you if you decide to follow a niche someone else has gone into and was selected.
Also, it will not choose you according to the number of subscribers you have.
So, do you and keep showing up.
Although applications aren’t out yet for creators to apply for, you can always stay glued here.
We will keep you informed when it is open.
