Apple Music recently reached a 100 million song milestone. It released this in a press release during the weekend. It had announced to be reaching 100 million songs on its platform by Monday.

This is an incredible feat for the streaming platform as it is the first platform to have attained such. Also, it makes Apple the largest catalogue of music amongst YouTube music’s 80 million songs, Spotify’s 82 million tracks and podcasts, and Amazon Music’s 90 million songs.

According to the platform, it records about 20,000 songwriters and songs every day. This showcase how democratic Apple Music is, that is, users can produce music even from the comfort of their homes.

The democratisation of the platform is not only limited to users but even to the industry. Speaking about the industry, it has been able to expand, more artists are finding their way into the industry.

“One hundred million songs — it’s a number that will continue to grow and exponentially multiply. But it’s more than just a number, representing something much more significant — the tectonic shift in the business of music making and distribution over these past two decades.”

Human Curation to drive recommendation algorithm

Apple would be introducing more human curation for users to help drive the algorithm in which recommendation is created.

In his press release, Apple said human curation has been the core of everything they do. And it has been the key to connecting artists and audiences.

This will help solve the challenge of having to find music on their own.

With an introduction like this, recommendations would be even more accurate based on their previous listen.

Asides from this in the past, Apple had introduced crafted playlists by listeners and radio hosts to help users find new music.

Apple Music Today

The feature was created to provide context for songs on the platform and for artists to be able to tell their stories.

Apple saw that it would be nice for users to have background knowledge of the music they listen to. Thereby, it introduced Apple Music today.

Apple Music Today will explore a song every day and give a background of the nature behind it. It could be the history of the artist or how the song came to be.

Asides from these features, Apple is still looking to explore more ways to make its platform better for users.

In past years, it released features like Spatial Audio, Lossless audio and others. So, it definitely has plans to release more beneficial features.
