Apple announced on Monday its customers in Vietnam can now use Apple Pay with their iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, and Mac.

The launch brings an easy, secure, and private way for Apple customers to pay for everything in their everyday routines, including making purchases with large and small retailers in stores, in apps, and on the web, the company said in a statement.

Apple Pay said it brings added speed and convenience to customers’ lives, whether they’re grabbing a coffee at Rang Rang Coffee, buying groceries from Annam Gourmet, or making an online purchase from Shopee.

Starting Monday, thousands of locations will accept Apple Pay, with support from some of Vietnam’s most established banks, across major credit and debit networks.

According to local media VN Express International, Vietnam is the third country in Southeast Asia to allow Apple Pay after Malaysia and Singapore.

“Contactless payments are an increasing mainstay in the day-to-day lives of our customers in Vietnam, and we are so thrilled to bring Apple Pay to Vietnam today and provide customers with an easy, secure, and private way to pay with Apple devices,” said Jennifer Bailey, Apple’s vice president of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet.

“Whether they’re tapping to pay in-store at top merchants, or securely making purchases online with their favorite e-commerce retailers and apps, we think Apple Pay will fit into Vietnamese customers’ daily routines seamlessly.”

Security and privacy are at the core of Apple Pay, the company said.

Customers will receive all the benefits of protecting personal information, transaction data, and credit and debit card information with the industry-leading security Apple Pay brings. When adding a credit or debit card, the actual card numbers are not stored on the device, nor on Apple servers.

Instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted, and securely stored in the Secure Element on the customer’s device, and each transaction is authorized with a one-time unique dynamic security code. Apple does not retain transaction information that can be tied back to the customer.

Their transactions stay between them, the merchant or developer, and their bank or card issuer.

If a customer’s iPhone is lost or stolen, they can use Find My iPhone to quickly locate, lock, or suspend payments from that device.

Customers with credit and debit cards from banks including Asia Commercial Joint Stock Bank (ACB), Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank, Sacombank, Techcombank, Vietcombank, and VPBank will be able to use Apple Pay at launch.

Customers of select banks will be able to apply for a virtual debit card through the bank app.

The virtual card can be issued instantly and added to Apple Pay, allowing users to begin paying immediately with their Apple devices.

Merchants such as Adidas, Annam Gourmet, CellphoneS, Decathlon, Điện Máy Xanh, Emart, F.Studio by FPT, FPT Shop, Hasaki, Hoàng Hà Mobile, Kokonic, LOTTE Mart, McDonald’s, Nhà Thuốc Long Châu, Rang Rang Coffee, ShopDunk, Starbucks, Taxi Mai Linh, Thế Giới Di Động, The Pizza Company, TopZone, Viettel Store, and Watsons; and apps and websites including BAEMIN, Be, Mytour, and Shopee will offer customers the ability to pay with Apple Pay from today.

Today, Apple Pay is available in more than 70 countries and regions, and works with more than 10,000 bank partners worldwide, the company added.
