Clubhouse Is Finally Coming To Android Smartphones

clubhouse is coming to android

Clubhouse, the social media app created in Q2 2020 has quickly gained a lot of users. However, its user base is only made up of folks who use iOS devices. Despite the restriction of the app to iOS users, its valuation has gone right through the roof in such a short time.

As of December 2020, the app had 600,000 registered users and was valued at nearly $100million. Surprisingly, after another valuation on Thursday, 21 January 2021, its value had hit $1billion.

Now that it’s finally making its way into the second expanse of the smartphone community – the android space – the company might be getting a massive boost in user base and returns.

The founders of the company, Paul Davison and Rohan Seth, made this announcement via a blog post on Sunday.

A part of the post read “We will soon working on the Android app and more functionality for accessibility and localisation so that people around the world can experience clubhouse.”

As of the moment that this article was written, no date for the new launch has been set.

How does the app work?

Just in case you’re still wondering what the app is all about, here are some answers to your questions.

Clubhouse is an invite-only, audio-chat, social networking application. The app allows users to host strictly verbal conversations in real-time.

No support for texting, exchanging media, or putting on your camera to show your face. And, you can only be a part of a hosted conversation if invited.

On the app, a group of people can share a conversation that’s coordinated by selected moderators. Users can join the discussion freely –after being invited – without having to subscribe to a premium plan.

There are no extra features hidden behind a premium package. Everything the application has to offer is accessible for free at the moment.

And lastly, no pop-up ads are running on the app at the moment. Hence, users can enjoy their conversations without any obstructions.

However, some of that might be changing soon.

Clubhouse intends to introduce new features to the app upon receiving new funding.

The features will help creators on the platform make money via subscriptions.

The Creator Grant Program

Clubhouse has already set up a “Creator Grant Program.” According to them, the essence of the program is to grant support to Clubhouse creators.

The program will help creators carve out a niche for themselves on the audio-only app.

Clubhouse hopes to have some of its users become influencers, just like on other social media platforms like TikTok, YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram.

More about clubhouse

Clubhouse was founded in April 2020. The app became more popular during the COVID-19 period. (Looks like TikTok, Twitter, Zoom, and Google Meet, were not the only ones that benefited from the lockdown phase).

In May 2020, the company received a $12million Series A investment.

The app’s user base has seen a hike in the last few months. In December, the app had more than 600,000 registered users.

And as of today, the app has attracted over 2 million active users – all from the iOS community alone.
