Thirty million users have signed up for Meta’s newly launched Threads app on its first day for Threading, says Mark Zuckerberg.

According to the company’s CEO, the Threads app is a “friendly” rival to Twitter.

Among them are Blue Sky by for CEO of Twitter, Jack Dorsy, Truth Social by former US president, Donald Trump and now, Threads by Zuckerberg.

Experts say Threads could attract the unhappy users of Twitter.

What Is Threads:

Threads is a new social media app by Meta for social interaction.

Threads is very similar to Twitter in that it also has feeds and allows users to share posts in forms of text, videos, photos and links.

Threads has many features similar to Twitter.

It allows users to post up to 500 characters.

The new social media platform is also friendly, hence, Mark Zuckerberg, while talking about it said Threads’ success lies in the platform maintaining a friendly atmosphere.

According to him, keeping the platform “friendly… will ultimately be the key to its success”.

But disagreeing with him, his rival, Elon Musk responded: “It is infinitely preferable to be attacked by strangers on Twitter, than indulge in the false happiness of hide-the-pain Instagram.”

When asked on Threads whether the app will be “bigger than Twitter”, Mr Zuckerberg said:

“It’ll take some time, but I think there should be a public conversations app with 1 billion+ people on it.

“Twitter has had the opportunity to do this but hasn’t nailed it. Hopefully we will.”

The launch has had a warm response online, with one person telling the BBC they saw Threads as a “much-needed competitor” to Twitter.

How IT Works:

You can share posts to Instagram or from Instagram to Threads.

Posts you can share can include links, photos, and videos of up to five minutes in length.

As a user, you can see a feed of posts which Meta call Threads from people you follow.

Also, Threads will recommend some contents for you to explore if you like.

You can control who can mention you on Threads and also filter contents you don’t want.

Unfollowing, blocking, restricting or reporting other profiles is also possible, and any accounts users block on Instagram are automatically blocked on Threads.

Features Of how Threads work:

Also, Zuckerberg has said that more features are coming to Threads.

Right now, you can type about 500 characters while sending a message.

Videos:

Also, For video posts, you can post video clips of up to five (5) minutes. This is especially awesome as other social platforms don’t allow such length of minutes for video posts.

Consequently, video content creators will especially welcome this opportunity the most.

Links:

Threads allows you post links too. While posting contents with links are not hat simple on Instagram, Threads makes it easier to post contents with links.

Deleting Threads:

You can also type and delete your Threads if you feel you made a mistake in what you sent.

Also, while threading (just like Tweeting), you can delete your threads if you don’t want others to see or keep seeing it.

However, it is not possible to delete your Threads profile without deleting the associated Instagram profile.

Speaking on this, Meta told the BBC:

“At this time, you can’t delete your Threads profile without deleting your Instagram account. This is something we’re working on.

“In the meantime, you can deactivate your Threads profile at any time.

Meanwhile, “Deactivating your Threads profile will not deactivate your Instagram account”.

Deactivation will mean your Threads profile, your posts and interactions with others’ posts won’t be visible, the firm added.

Users can download and delete Threads data by visiting their Instagram settings, Meta says.

Threads is now available to download in over 100 countries including the UK, but not yet in the EU because of regulatory concerns.

Hashtags:

Well, unlike Twitter, Threads does not allow using hashtags yet.

Perhaps its among the features Mark would be adding to the platform later.

So, trending specific issues on the platform using hashtags is not available yet.

Verification (like Twitter Blue Tick):

To authenticate a handle on Threads, the platform allows verification.

However, the verification comes from Instagram.

More on How Threads Work:

However, some early users on Wednesday reported problems when uploading images, hinting at teething problems.

Users see a feed of posts, which Meta calls “threads”, from people they follow as well as recommended content.

They are able to control who can “mention” them and filter out replies to posts that contain specific words.

Unfollowing, blocking, restricting or reporting other profiles is also possible, and any accounts users block on Instagram are automatically blocked on Threads.

While Meta stresses ties to Instagram, media coverage has focused on its similarity to Twitter, with some investors describing the app as a “Twitter killer”.
