Microsoft sabotaged its chance of having a shot at buying TikTok.
Probably involuntarily, Microsoft might have upset TikTok’s CEO, ByteDance.
Let’s do a recap
If you’ve been following the news, Microsoft, along with other prominent companies were potential buyers of TikTok.
Unfortunately for Microsoft, it lost to the tech giant, Oracle.
Oracle and ByteDance have reached a compromise to become technology partners.
They’re both, however, waiting for official approval from the White House.
Why did Microsoft lose its chance?
Microsoft described TikTok as a security risk.
Zhang Yiming, ByteDance’s CEO, did not take that very lightly.
Microsoft went further saying that the security risk is something they could fix.
Microsoft made this statement while speaking to the American Lawmakers.
TikTok might have felt embarrassed by this.
As a potential buyer, Microsoft intended to pay $20 billion.
However, that offer was rejected by TikTok.
Notwithstanding, Microsoft’s offer wasn’t the only thing that steered TikTok away.
The Chinese government also restricted the forced sale of TikTok to an American company.
With that, TikTok decided to partner with Oracle, in place of selling out ultimately.
The Trump administration has consistently termed TikTok as a threat posed to America’s national security.
Microsoft repeating this must have thrown TikTok off.
TikTok has refused to accept the allegations of stealing data from America and sending it to China.
In early August, Trump issued an executive order for TikTok to sell out.
The intention was to force TikTok into selling to an American company.
As well as to have access to the data TikTok “might” have gathered according to the Trump Administration.

Microsoft’s statement after it lost the race
Microsoft, on Sunday, released a statement addressing its loss in the race.
Again, in the statement, the company highlighted flaws that TikTok might have.
It’s very confusing that Microsoft would do that seeing as it was the reason why the company was rejected.
In the statement, Microsoft referred to TikTok as a national security hazard.
The statement also highlighted that TikTok faltered when it came to online security and privacy. Amongst other things.
For obvious reasons, TikTok has been off and on with its decision making.
We don’t even know if its decision to partner with Oracle would be stable.
What if they wake up tomorrow and decide, “oh, we don’t want Oracle anymore.”
If we’re honest, we can’t put that past them.
TikTok has been giving the media so much to talk about.
What do you think is the next line of action for TikTok?
Do you think they’d change their minds?
Or do you think they’d finally stand by this decision?
