The microblogging platform will let more people be private on its platform. It announced to take down pictures or videos shared without the owner’s consent.

Although,  this would be done at the request of private users.

This was announced in a tweet on the official account of  Twitter’s safety on Tuesday.

“Beginning today, we will not allow the sharing of private media, such as images or videos of private individuals without their consent.

Publishing people’s private info is also prohibited under the policy, as is threatening or incentivizing others to do so.”

To further its development, Twitter released a blog post.

It said it would be extending the ban on private information such as personal videos or pictures.

And this would help prevent privacy violations and harassment on the platform.

“Sharing personal media, such as images or videos, can potentially violate a pserson’s privacy, and may lead to emotional or physical harm,” Twitter said.

It added that it could affect anyone, especially women, minorities, activists, dissidents and members of the minority.

Twitter said it would examine the request sent by a private user or their representative.

And access the context in which the content was shared to see if it violates its policy.

However, Twitter said that if the tweet, picture or video applies to the public interest, the ban does not apply.

It explained further that some people might share private information to help the subject in a crisis or situation.

But it would consider removing it if the content is featured to harass and intimidate the content’s subject.

Twitter said that the move is an expansion of its privacy policy.

That is, the company would protect users physically and emotionally.

Initially, users could not share other people’s addresses, governments ID and additional sensitive information.

However, public information like age, job, pictures, screenshots don’t violate its policy; some of these shareable items are regulated according to another policy.

And select “Includes private information.”
