Twitter On Fire As #Uniben Students, Soldiers Clash Over ATM Withdrawals

#Uniben Students have clashed with some men of the Nigerian soldiers over withdrawals of Naira notes at the Automated Teller Machine (ATM).

The recent old to new naira swap and the lack of naira even at ATMs have continued to ignite troubles among Nigerians.

While videos have emerged where Nigerians are fighting over whose turn it is to withdraw at ATMs, other videos have shown Nigerians going naked in banks just to get the naira.

Other videos equally show Nigerians fighting even in the banking halls over naira withdrawals.

This development has continued to fester even as Point 0f Sale (POS) operators are making brisk sales of the naira in their possessions at crazy rates.

For instance, at Festac town, Amuwo Odofin LGA, LAgos, POS operators are charging N1000 to withdraw N5000.

What this means is that for you to withdraw N5000 from your own account via the POS, you would pay the operator N1000.

This is for the operators who have cash as many others don’t have.

Consequently, those who are not ready to pay such high charges have to stand very long queues to make withdrawals from a bank’s ATM.

#Uniben students clash with soldiers:

Trending with the hashtag, #uniben, tweeps have taken to Twitter to share videos and comments on what transpired between the students and the soldiers.

According to tweeps, some men of the Nigerian army had entered the university onΒ  Thursday to make use of the ATM.

Reports said the personnel comprised men and female of the Nigerian army.

They had entered the university and allegedly forced their way to the ATM to withdraw naira without joining the queue.

Knowing that the act was wrong, the soldiers became suspicious of the students.

How Trouble Started:

The tweeps said one of the male soldiers told the female colleague to beat up a female student they thought was recording them.

The female soldier allegedly beat up the female student who, eventually, was not recording the soldiers.

Students Retaliate:

Meanwhile, the #uniben students who are now angry over the soldiers’ acts, pounced on one of the male soldiers.

A viral video shows the students assaulting the soldier at the university’s gate.

Meanwhile, miffed by the #uniben students’ assault of their colleague, soldiers mobilised and stormed the university, flogging random students.

Videos on Twitter have shown hw soldiers are flogging #uniben students in the university.

Other videos also alleged that the soldiers stormed the university in retaliation, to destroy cars and other property.

Meanwhile, students of #uniben have blocked the Benin-Lago expressway in protest against the alleged invasion of their school by soldiers.

They are equally protesting the assault of students by the soldiers.

This has cause traffic gridlock on the expressway.

The continuous shortage of the naira and the malfunctioning of banks’ app are scuttling the cashless policy in Nigeria.
