As Facebook rebrands to become Meta, the company also plans to rename some of its products, like Oculus quest Headset.

Here, we would bring to you the products that Facebook is renaming to assume new names.

VR Headset:

Facebook will use its Meta brand name on its VR headset products.

Andrew Bosworth, who’s now Meta’s chief technology officer, made the revelation to newsmen.

He said, “starting in early 2022, you’ll start to see the shift from Oculus Quest from Facebook to Meta Quest and Oculus App to Meta Quest App over time.”

The Meta chief said the rebranding is to “better reflect who we are and our ambitions to help build the metaverse.”

He also said that the company, by the rebranding, will become “Reality Labs” that produce work very pivotal to Meta’s future.

Bosworth also said Meta’s mission remains “to build the tools that help people feel connected anytime, anywhere.”

Facebook Portal Becomes Meta Portal:

Aside the Oculus Quest Headset, the company is also renaming Portal, its video-calling smart display.

The Portal allows users make WhatsApp calls as well as show Instagram photos.

The Portal also works well with Amazon’s Alexa.

According to Bosworth, “Over the next few months, you’ll see a phased rollout of the brand across all the relevant products and services — including Facebook Portal to Meta Portal.”

Facebook Reality Lab Becomes Just Reality Lab:

Facebook Reality Labs is simply becoming Reality Labs.

The company said people will start seeing changes in the names of its products from 2022.

“Starting in early 2022, you’ll start to see the shift from Oculus Quest from Facebook to Meta Quest and Oculus App to Meta Quest App over time.”

Meta to shift to Horizon Home, Horizon Venues; Horizon Friends and Profiles:

Also, Bosworth explained that the company is rebranding to expand the Meta Horizon product and services lineups.

According to him, “We’ll also expand Meta Horizon as the brand that will encompass all of our first-party immersive social experiences.

“You’ve seen this already with Horizon Workrooms and Horizon Worlds.

“Soon you’ll see us shift from Oculus to Horizon Home, Horizon Venues, Horizon Friends, and Horizon Profile.”

Facebook becomes Meta:

CEO, Mark Zuckerberg announces that Facebook becomes Meta:

Why the name changes:

According to Facebook/Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the name changes is to accommodate the company’s growth vision.

The CEO said the company is building metaverse, a new virtual reality platform which he envisions will become the future of the internet and computing.

According to him, ““In the metaverse, you’ll be able to do almost anything you can imagine — get together with friends and family, work, learn, play, shop, create — as well as completely new experiences that don’t really fit how we think about computers or phones today.”

Supporting Zuckerberg’s stand, Bosworth added saying, the goal is to bring 1 billion people into the metaverse.

He said the goal is also to make people think about the metaverse when they use the company’s products.

“When people buy our products, we want them to clearly understand that all of these devices come from Meta and ladder up to our metaverse vision,” Bosworth wrote in his post.

“That’s why we’re evolving our brand across our current lines of hardware in-market, as well as for all future products, in order to bring more consistency across the portfolio and more transparency to consumers.”

“While we’re retiring the name, I can assure you that the original Oculus vision remains deeply embedded in how Meta will continue to drive mass adoption for VR today.”

Implication:

Facebook’s renaming of its products raises the question pf whether the company’s work and services will change too.

However, Mark Zuckerberg’s company has assured that despite the name changes, its products will serve same purpose.

The company however added that it will serve people more and better following its rebranding.

“Not much will fundamentally change for our work or our deliverables in the near term, but over time this will serve as a unifying force.”
