- The news of the 5G network coming into Nigeria is a thrilling announcement for every sector in the country. This entrance would bring many significant changes in every industry and sector. A report concerning entrenching the 5G network in Nigeria highlighted some benefits and changes. Considering the country’s economic situation, this article would shine more light on the subject.
In partnership with MTN, the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) will launch the 5G network on August 24. This is to initiate the 5G digital stream in the country.
The 5G network is a range of radio frequencies in the sub-6 GHz range, and its millimetre wave frequency range is 24.25 GHz and above. This makes the 5G network a higher range of all networks; it comes with higher connection speed, low latency, and greater capacity. Also, It is an improvement from the other network offerings.
However, introducing this spectrum would mean better performances, increased use and expansion.
In a press release, NCC said the connection deployment would accelerate broadband growth in Nigeria and help the country attain a more robust and vibrant ecosystem.
Knowing this, the regulatory bodies and stakeholders in the industry must collaborate and formulate a regulatory framework to bring changes and opportunities to the country.
To ensure this, NCC will partner with the commission in charge of communication and the digital economy for a digital Nigeria, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).
This way, NITDA has committed to direct its policies in adopting the 5G network to ensure this is achieved. It would begin to increase the digital literacy of youths by providing them with training programmes and funding initiative solutions that would help.
The benefit of 5G Network Nigeria’s Economy
There have been a lot of talks regarding the 5G network. During the pandemic, there were concerns that the 5G network led to some health implications. However, the commission dedicated to such an area clarified the claims, saying the network doesn’t cause any health complications.
Also, many people had always thought that the 5G network encompasses just good internet connection, especially for daily internet users. However, the benefits trail beyond that.
A technological analysis had mentioned that with the introduction of other network upgrades came a significant benefit to the economy. Also, the reports state technological experts have said that the 5G network would generate about $60 billion in GDP by 2030.

Undoubtedly, the 5G network would transcend every sector of the country’s economy; Health, Education, Argic, Startup, Security, Transport, etc.
With the 5G networks, deployment network providers could deliver high-speed broadband service to all areas, especially those with lower density. And this will result in more business services and applications being generated. Digital solutions would also be enhanced and embraced more in the country.
In the Health sector, the 5G network will help infrastructures, especially in diagnostic, treatment, communication and reach. Some health platforms now have applications where a person can book an appointment, consultation, or call in the case of emergencies; however, lower network connectivity made the innovation ineffective, with a reliable network with the introduction of the 5G network.
Currently, some companies and startups are looking for better ways to improve the services they provide in the country. Also, they are looking for relevant ways to remain in the competition and ensure that services reach consumers promptly. The deployment of the 5G network service in Nigeria will ensure this. Also, it will create avenues for more services, increasing employment in the country.
Also, with the incident of the pandemic in 2020, gatherings were held online. Schools, churches, and events were done on virtual platforms. However, with the network connectivity in the country, internet users often face issues with connectivity ensuring low turnouts to these virtual activities. However, with the deployment, they would have access to the internet faster and better and be able to participate actively in virtual activities like remote education and access to online materials.
Another aspect of the economy is security. When it comes to the topic of data security, it is a sensitive one. It cuts across financial institutions, startups, investors and others. With the deployment of the 5G network, security agencies would be able to improve data protection and privacy. It will curb vices like cybercrime and malware.
Also, the deployment would help support emerging technologies like Web3, cryptocurrencies, the Internet of Things and others. It would help create more awareness and publicity for them. And people would also have quicker access to them.
In the agric space, farmers can have a quicker implementation of their technologies to help facilitate their farming process. They are able to identify the needs quickly.
Interestingly, some smartphones have 5G enablement that allows them to function even faster than the phones who don’t have it. The deployment of the5G network in the country would ensure users of such phones enjoy the benefit of getting the phone. And it would now encourage more smartphone makers in the country to add the element to their products.
For all of these to happen, all the stakeholders need to be involved to ensure the proper deployment of the network in Nigeria.
