Wipe the phone clean of all your data:

Backup Your data before you sell:

So, you must backup everything before you wipe them off from your older phone.

You can back your data to iCloud, on windows, Mac, or even use external hard drive to copy and save all your data.

Steps to backup you data to iCloud:

To back up to iCloud from your older iPhone, do these:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Click on [your name]
  3. Click on iCloud
  4. Then tap iCloud Backup
  5. Finally, tap Back Up Now.

Back up to Mac:

To back up to your Mac, follow these steps:

  1. Connect your iPhone and your computer with either a cable or Wi-Fi.
  2. If you have macOS 10.15 or later, go to Finder sidebar and select your iPhone.
  3. Go to iTunes to select your phone if you have an earlier version of the OS.
  4. Meanwhile, on your Finder sidebar, tap on General.
  5. Then select Back Up All of the Data on Your iPhone to This Mac.
  6. After that, click on Back Up Now.

On iTunes:

  1. If you took the iTunes option, then connect your phone and open iTunes.
  2. Then, click on the image of your phone and select Summary.

On Windows:

  1. Similarly, For Windows, connect your iPhone to your computer with either a cable or Wi-Fi and open iTunes.

After you have done these, deactivate your Apple’s Find My to unfind your phone since its not missing.

You need to do this because Apple’s Find My app might block activation by a new owner.

Although when you erase all contents and settings on your phone, the Find My automatically deactivates itself.

However, if it does not deactivate, follow these steps to deactivate it:

  1. If you are using iOS 13 or later, go to Settings
  2. Then, go to [your name] and to Find My,
  3. After that, turn off Find My [device].
  4. You will need to enter your Apple ID password before you can then tap Turn Off.
  5. Conversely, if you are using iOS 12 or earlier, go to Settings.
  6. Then go to [your name] and then click on iCloud.
  7. After that, turn off Find My [device].
  8. You will enter your Apple ID password. After that, click on Turn Off.

Log out of iMessage and sign out of iCloud:

For iMessage, if you sell your phone and get a new one without logging out of your imessage, you won’t receive messages on your new device if it’s Android.

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Then click on Messages

For iCloud:

  1. Click on Tap Settings
  2. Go to [your name]
  3. Then sign Out.
  4. Enter your Apple ID password and tap Turn Off.

Unpair Apple Watch and Airpods:

The next step is to unpair your Airpods and Apple Watch.

Also, you should unpair your Apple Watch and Airpods from the device before selling it.

To unpair Apple Watch, do the following:

  1. Place the watch and phone near to each other.
  2. Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
  3. Go to the My Watch tab and select your watch at the top of the screen.
  4. Select the info circle next to the watch you want to unpair.
  5. Click Unpair Apple Watch.
  6. Enter your Apple ID password and confirm.

  1. Place your AirPods or AirPods Pro and iPhone near each other.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Go to Bluetooth.
  4. Click the information icon next to your AirPods.
  5. Then select Forget this Device.

Now that you have done all these, its time to wipe the phone clean.

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Then click on General.
