On the night of what has been termed the ‘Lekki Massacre,’ MTN took to its Twitter account to apologise for the service challenges faced.
MTN apologises for service challenges
Recall that during the peaceful protest, the Nigerian Army attacked Lekki protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate.
This led to injuries and the death of many during the late hours of Tuesday.
Reportedly, witnesses were deprived of sending out crucial information from the scene because the network service was off.

However, in its statement, MTN said that it was due to the loss of auxiliary power supply at its hub site in the area.
It promised to fix the problem as soon as possible.
The apology came in hours later after the network was criticised and accused as conspirators in the Lekki massacre.
A telecom service engineer took to his page to disagree with the written statement by MTN.
He said: “The hub’s power couldn’t go off completely as there was a backup to pick up if the main source dies.”

Following a series of accusations tweets, MTN deletes the Apology Tweet on its page.

However, after the statement, the network did not give any further explanation on the matter.
