At noon on Friday, February 26, Sony’s PlayStation Network experienced its second power outage in the month.
Surprisingly, the outage stretched long into Saturday morning.
According to a memo on Sony’s PlayStation status page on Friday, PS Vita, PS3, PS4, and PS5 consoles were all affected by the outage. Sony put up the notification at around 6:33 PM.
A part of the notification read “you might have difficulty launching games, apps or network features.” The gaming giant apologized for any inconvenience that the glitch might have caused and promised that it was working hard to rectify it.
However, it seems like it took longer than expected for its tech team to resolve the issues. The outage persisted till the next morning but was later resolved.
According to an Engadget report, the outage may have affected only a set of games.
Players all over the world seemed to be able to access Fortnite without any glitches.
I reckon that this subject would have trended on Twitter if it had affected Fortnite. However, Call of Duty: Warzone among other games was affected by the glitch.
Microsoft had its fair share of last month’s network outage
Just a day before Sony was plagued with its network obstruction, Microsoft had battled with the same.
The Xbox Live service suffered a global outage on Thursday, February 25. Although, unlike Sony’s, its outage only lasted for roughly 5 hours.
The first PlayStation service downtime in February
Sony had a service downtime for the first time in February on Wednesday the 10th.
As at the time, its network was down everywhere on the planet and that lasted for an hour. It was surprising to see the same event reoccur only two weeks after (last weekend).
Was the source of both outages the same? Are there any chances of a third one?
Was it a bigger surge: seeing that the second one took longer to fix? We hope to get comments on these questions from Sony soon.
We’d keep you posted as soon as we get more details. In the meantime, kindly drop a comment in the comment section if you have any findings of your own.
