This is in line with the stipulations of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

However, despite declaring interest to run for the country’s president, the CBN governor did not resign his appointment at the apex bank.

Some legal practitioners and other stakeholders have argued that the Nigerian constitution requires that all political appointees must resign their current positions if they want to via for other elective positions.

However, Emefiele did not resign his appointment but went ahead with his ambition of succeeding President Buhari.

Some farmers had purchased the N100m presidential nomination form for him for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

However, Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN) condemned the CBN governor.

He also advised President Muhammadu Buhari to sack Emefiele.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Board of the Central Bank of Nigeria stood against him too.

Likewise the Attorney General of the Federation.

However, Emefiele who had denied knowing the people who bought the form for him, later approach a Federal High Court in Abuja to defend his ambition.

He urged the court to prevent INEC, the Attorney-General of the Federation and the board of CBN from disqualifying him from running for president.

Emefiele also approached a Delta State High Court on same reasons and got a ruling in his favour.

However, calls intensified for his sack.

Surprisingly, he suddenly withdrew his suit against INEC and the Attorney-General of the Federation.

Meanwhile, rumours started making the rounds Wednesday afternoon that the president had sacked him as the CBN Governor.

However, CBN’s head of corporate communications , Osita Nwanisiobi, debunked the rumours in a comment to Nairametrics.

He said president Buhari has not sacked Emefiele as the CBN Governor.

He reiterated that he is “not aware of any sack of the CBN Governor.”

Meanwhile, the CBN Governor is currently in Davos on official assignment.

The platform said it “contacted other sources close to the presidency and the CBN Governor to confirm if the rumours are true.”

“All our sources claim no knowledge of a purported sack.”

Also, keep in mind that the CBN recently increased interest rate from 11.5% to 13%.

The CBN cited rising inflation and the need to avoid a lack of demand for Nigeria’s bonds.
