Kenya’s Talents Can Now Apply For Saucecode Hackathon

Spread the love

The talent company Workfinda is currently hosting its annual event, Saucecode Hackathon.

Applicants from Nigeria and now Kenya can apply to participate.

Workfinda had previously hosted only Nigerians for the events.

However, this year, it plans to feature two African countries; Nigeria and Kenya.

Saucecode is a branch of Workfinda.

It is an open community to all Africa tech talents.

And that is why it created the platform, Saucecode Hackathon.

Saucecode hackathon is a subunit of Saucecode.

Its purpose is to recognise and celebrate tech talents in Africa.

According to the Chief Operations Officer, Wilfred Ekpo, the essence is to promote diversity.

For those interested, they can register with just a click.

The program is going to be sponsored by Findworka in partnership with Simplifyd and Talent Bridge Kenya.

Rules for the event

The competition will be a merge of 4  for a team to go through each stage.  The team should include a female.

Also, each team will select a leader that registers the team and takes responsibility for all members.

Ever since the program emerged, this is the first time it is holding virtually.

The reason is due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

So a team needs to create a Saucecode account that allows the passing of information to the public.

The team also requires to identify a problem in a sector (Education, Finance, Healthcare) and provide profound solutions through technology.

After,  the teams battle across different elimination points.

The finalists have the opportunity to pitch their ideas in front of the judges.

The judges select a winner, who then becomes the champion for Saucecode Hackathon 2020.

According to Wilfred, the winning teams have had challenges with funding their prototypes.

Judges for the 2020 Saucecode Hackathon event include Tomi Amao and Aniedi Udo-Obong and 6 others who are yet to be known.

Saucecode Hackathon plans on awarding each finalist from both Nigeria and Kenya a Macbook Pro.

As well as a hosting credit from Simplifyd and a placement opportunity with Findworka.

In conclusion

In the last two years, the winners were Team Wevote in 2018 and Team YouDefine in 2019.
