American cross-platform messaging service, WhatsApp, is making plans to allow calls on its desktop app.
WABetainfo, a popular WhatsApp leaker, reported that the communication company is already working on a test.
The feature in the test stage covers video and voice support for both groups and individuals.
Companies like Zoom and Facebook have used the new video calling culture to their advantage.
Before now, WhatsApp expanded its video call’s four-person limit to eight people.
Now, it has gone a step further by making it possible for users of the desktop app to make video calls.
According to screenshots put up by WABetainfo, calling someone on the web app automatically opens up another window.
The call is managed in the new window while the app’s main page is left open.
What we don’t know
For now, it’s impossible to access the feature directly. While the feature goes through the testing stage, one can’t be certain when it’ll roll out.
Instead of relying on messenger rooms, Whatsapp will now depend on in-house tech for its web app.
In other words, video and voice calls can be done directly on the web app.
It’s still unknown how many callers will be allowed on a call. There’s also no telling yet if it will use end-to-end encryption.
Another thing also remains unknown. For example, will the web app show feeds of other video calls like the mobile app?
Images from WABetainfo already suggest that a pop-up with the alternative of receiving it ending a call will show.
Besides, there might be an interface that will pop-up with the option to go from audio to video call.
This is also available in the mobile app.

Once WhatsApp gets a hold of its call support, it would no longer have to rely on phone tethers.
The company also has linked device login support in the works. Once that is activated, users can log in on several devices.
There’s no news of when both the feature will be available.
