Ouch! You’ve lost them, and you don’t know how to find your missing AirPods case or perhaps the AirPods themselves.

No worries, you’re not alone.

Mind you; these wearables are relatively easy to throw around. Be it in the gym, at the beach, or perhaps on the go.

You don’t want to be caught up in that ‘moment’—the kind when you have to map out different possible hide-outs in your head.

In this post, we will teach you how to find your missing AirPods or their case.

Dive in!

How to find your lost  or missing AirPods

Interestingly, you are not the only one concerned about finding your lost Airpods.

Apple has also had a similar thought about missing AirPods and AirPods cases.

As a result, the tech giant developed software – Find my Airpods.

It functions just like the prominent Find my iPhone.

And to make it more accessible, Apple built the feature right into the Find my iPhone feature.

So, fret not!

Here is how to go about it:

Step 1: Locate and open the ‘Find my iPhone’ app.

Tap on your AirPods from the available list.

Step 3: Next to your wearable, you will find a led indicating if your wearable is nearby. If it shows a green light, then you are lucky.

Step 4: Tap on the ‘Play’ icon, and gradually increase the volume. This will make the sound from the AirPods more audible.

Step 4: Trace the sound and locate your AirPods.

If you can’t find it yet; proceed and tap on the car icon.

This way, you can trace the AirPods following the directions provided.

Note that when AirPods are offline; you can’t get to play sound on them.

How to find AirPods Case

Similar to how you find your missing AirPods, finding the case requires a bit of luck.

The AirPods case is easier to find with either bud intact; otherwise, you may just opt for a new one instead.

In this case, there is no sound to trace. However, there is a smart way to go about that.

Note that this part also doubles as how to find your lost but dead AirPods.

Here is how to find your AirPods case;

Step 1: Open the ‘Find my iPhone’ app.

Step 2: On the list of paired devices; select AirPods.

Step 3: Check if the led light by the side of the AirPods is green or grey.

If green, that means it is nearby.

If grey, that means the case is not close by or perhaps, has run out of battery.

Step 4: In a situation where the led-light is green, you can tap on the ‘Play’ icon. You can trace the sound if it is audible enough.

What do you do if your AirPods doesn’t appear on the Find my iPhone list?

What happens when you hit a road-block?

That moment when your AirPods disappears from the ‘Find my iPhone’ paired list.

Here is what you should do;

Firstly, note that in scenarios like this; your AirPods are far away from your location.

In that case, the last location where the AirPods were last connected via Bluetooth will be provided.

Say you used them last at the beach that is 1km away.

You do get a precise location tracker that will pinpoint where that is.

Not to raise your hopes too high, but the app may not provide an accurate/precise location.

However, it will give a much-needed idea of where exactly to search.

Possible challenges of finding missing or stolen AirPods

So, it’s best that the above seamlessly work for you.

However, you may come across specific challenges while searching.

Here are notable challenges you could come across;

1. When your AirPods are closed up in their case; you can’t possibly get them to make a sound.

2. In the case of theft. You may find it hard to get the app to display a precise location.

Also, the AirPods may have been paired to another device. This way, the last location recorded on the owner’s device is insignificant.

3. If you don’t turn on your ‘Find my (device)’ app before your AirPods go off; it may be hard to find.

4. If ‘No Location Found’ appears below your AirPods. You may not be able to play sound.

However, you will have access to the location where it was last connected.

In conclusion

It would be best if you didn’t misplace your AirPods or the case in the first place.

Finding them when they go missing could be a chore. Most people just opt to replace them.

So, if you can’t replace them with a new set, you can just stick to indoor use only.
